And The Beat Goes On
by Sean McGahey
It is with great pleasure that Blackheath Books introduce their first anthology publication, the long awaited collection of fiction and interviews – The Beat Anthology 2006 – 2009.
New alternative literature is currently in a particularly vibrant period with many energetic and innovative works filling and enriching the modern online and print based British literary scene.
Here is a strikingly diversified collection of stories, interviews and articles, many of which have not previously appeared online or book form. No anthology, much less an anthology chosen from The Beat website, can represent the diversity of the past three years. What one can say is that, of the names that come to mind when one thinks back over the years, a surprising portion are represented in this anthology. One can also say that the selections are extremely good reading.
The reader has only to glance at the table of contents of this anthology to see how many distinguished contributors The Beat has had in the three years of its existence. This anthology features the work of twelve writers from the 21st century offbeat/brutalist counter-cultural literary movement. Collectively they gave birth to a literature of previously unimaginable, uncensored and expressive range of work.
The Beat Anthology 2006 – 2009 is now available from http://www.blackheathbooks.org.uk/7.html
