Literary streak with Tindal

by Sean McGahey

Worth Writing About (from the ideas factory)

Birmingham has found its literary streak with Tindal Street Press. Paul Woolf wades through their crop of gritty, urban novels.  Birmingham is enjoying a renaissance. Its city centre is being re-built, with new shops, clubs and bars opening each week. All three of Birmingham’s football teams are in the Premiership and it is one of the front-runners to become European City of Culture in 2008.

Tindal Street Press (TSP), the city’s first fiction publishing company, is at the centre of this rebirth. The company’s success embodies a new spirit of enterprise and confidence in the city. The novels and anthologies TSP publishes reflect a growing fascination among writers with understanding Birmingham. It’s a city that is, at last, worth writing about.  For more info please visit
