No Matter How Bad You Want It To

by Michael Cuglietta

the circus lights
of the city
transform your brown eyes
into something
worth looking at

time will never
standstill
no matter
how bad
you want it to

I will
forever feel you hand in mine
I will
forever taste your lips
I will
forever fall asleep
next to you
in a tall building
on the 7th floor
with traffic noise
reaching all the way up
to the rooftop garden

there is
no money
there is
never any money
but I’ll find away
to get us drunk

open
a cheap bottle of wine
with a wire coat hanger
pick
broken pieces of cork
out of
your plastic cup

watch you
naked
blowing your hair
dry for me

time will never
standstill
no matter
how bad
you want it to
