Outlaw

At seventeen,
she ran away
couldn’t tell her father
about the piano lessons
or teachers
who killed with their eyes
she hitchhiked south
got picked up by a trucker
who gave her half
a bagel
and later asked for head
let me out, she said,
Or I swear…
She lived and slept
in a sand dune
she dug by the sea.
That night,
the same trucker
drove by,
headlights flashing,
and smashed through
her sand dune.
