More about Phrased & Confused.

Phrased & Confused is a spoken word and music project that combines development opportunities for live literature promoters/producers with a live tour featuring singer-songwriters Emma Pollock (The Delgados) and Chris T-T, poet Brendan Cleary and spoken word duo Sore Throat. During previous Phrased & Confused projects, our research demonstrated a lack of producers/promoters with the skills and networks necessary to produce quality live literature events and tours. We wanted to do something about it so, as part of this year’s tour, we are running a development programme that will give potential and emerging producers/promoters opportunities to work with our tour venues, provide training and support for them and expand their networks.

How it works?

At each tour date we will be holding a free seminar/networking event for regional live literature ‘activists’ including promoters, producers, editors, writers/performers. Producers/promoters that attend the seminar will be invited to submit their ideas for working with the host venue. We will work with each of the tour venues to identify one producer with whom they will work during 2007 providing a real-life professional development opportunity for each chosen producer. As part of their professional development they will be supported in submitting an Arts Council England ‘Grants for the Arts’ application to their regional office. Alongside this selected producers will also be invited to a series of training sessions to help equip them with the skills they need to produce their project. These training sessions will also be open for application to any producer/promoter who attends the initial seminar.

Our Tour will visit these venues:
Wed 5th Oct: Luminaire (London)
Sun 8th Oct: Colchester Arts Centre (Colchester)
Mon 9th Oct: Norwich Arts Centre (Norwich)
Wed 18th Oct: The Y (Leicester)
Thu 19th Oct: Komedia Brighton (Brighton)
Sat 21st Oct: The Brewery (Kendal)
