POLITICIAN DEMOLITION
by Matthew Harrison
If you lack ambition,
If you lack simple intuition,
If you desire some instant recognition,
Become a politician.
If you would like a new position,
If you can carefully guide us through transition,
If you can come up with many a meaningless rendition,
Feel free to become a politician.
As we sit back and listen to your next proposition,
As we stand up and march on your next expedition,
We will watch you show the skill of the best magician,
We will watch you sing the song of the best musician,
As you fail to cure the country’s shocking condition,
And as you slowly steer statistics into submission.
Yes, we might even grow tired of your dire composition,
We might even elect a new politician.
