SISTER SALLY
by Daniel Irwin
(from ‘Creatures In Rusty Boxes:
Observations Of My Neighbors’)
Sally had a
Fantastic ass.
She was more a
Mobile home ho
Than trailer trash.
She took no shit
From nobody
And moved with
A marked sense
Of imminent
Destruction,
Always predator
Never prey.
She could cold-cock
A man with a
Well swung bottle
With her eyes closed.
Those that knew her
Said that she had
Really changed
In attitude, outlook,
And demeanor since
She left the convent.
Still, her man, Jeffery
Spoke well of her
When she had him
In a headlock.

It’s good to get poetry that rhymes and still has a modern register. Could it be put to rap beat music? Or satirical high gregorian chant? Laudamus dammit.
