Spiders and Butterflies
by Linda Rosenkrans
I took a
Secret bite
Out of
An unsuspecting
Larvae
And then
Disappeared
Into the trees
I let my
Tenuous wings expand
Into her powerful wind
My antennae’s
Immediately
Finding their way
To her black dots
I tried to dive
Into her cedar chest
But her rib cage
Protected her
From uncertain moths
Attempting to fly
Into her territory
I bounced off
Her spinneret
Hitting my head
On a few
Resistant steps
I lit her coals
But she wouldn’t
Have anything to do
With lighter fluid
Extinguishing my fuel
Before the danger sparked
Then like a butterfly
She
Fluttered
Away
And was gone
Seeking other
Caterpillars
To spin
Cocoons
While I found
Other
Spiders
To spin webs.
