Having an interest in the Great War, I picked up "Lice" in a second hand book shop many years ago and have read it several times. The book transcends that conflict and is a wry study of the male human condition. Cendrars literary skills are demonstrated from the books beginning and his personality shines brightly down the decades.

To Lee Rourke and Jim Christy, thank you for your web content about Cendrars. Having studies French literature for A level about 25 years ago I'd never heard of him. It was only organising a conference at a hotel in Paris, where the meeting rooms are named after writers, that I heard his name and so sought more information on him. I will certainly explore his works now that he has hit my radar and who knows, perhaps another fan will be born!

To Lee Rourke:
As a reader of Blaise Cendrars, I am very pleased to have just come across your essay. At the end of 1999, I had published an article about Blaise, calling him the most important writer of the twentieth century. (the magazine had surveyed frequent contributors, asking them who was the most important. They went with my essay because at first, I was told, they thought I was making him up!)

It's good to know someone else has heard of him.
