Urchin Belle by Jenni Fagan
by Sean McGahey
A while ago I was sent a copy of “Urchin Belle by Jenni Fagan” the book blurb goes something like this “…a debut collection that combines a genuine poetic originality with a startling no bullshit clarity. This is a voice born out of a life lived on the extreme peripheries of society”.
To be honest I wasn’t gonna read it! Everything I’m sent or e-mailed is …a genuine poetic originality with a startling no bullshit…Occasionally when people are submitting some work I wish they would say …This is far from genuine and far from any peripheries of society…in fact.. It’s shit – I’d probably laugh and check to see if the author was Jeffrey Archer or Malorie Blackman.
Anyway, I’ve started reading it…and yes Jenni Fagan appears to be the real deal. It’s far from bullshit – it’s bloody good!
When I’m I’m done, I’ll let you know more about it. Or, (In a broad Irish accent) Why Don’t You (Switch Off Your Television Set and Go and Do Something Less Boring Instead?) buy your own copy!
