You Know Who You Are

by Mike Blake

You’re a big time charger on the way to nowhere.
The land won’t support you;
The waves won’t carry you;
The wind won’t push you;
All of it indifferent to your paltry desires
Your causes and ambitious projects
Your money drives and vote seeking methods.
You’ve shut off nature for a George Washington;
Your fifty grand car will be pelted by a wrathful hail
Sooner or later
It is on the inevitable agenda
The fall from grace in your own mind
(All those cocktails won’t help).
Don’t ask for my sympathy
As you sink in your own shit.
I’ve been pointing out the path for years
When you scornfully laughed
(Dismissive shakes of your head)
You called me crazy
But you look unsure of yourself now.
